Numbers with names behind them.
An impact number is only useful if you can trace it back to a specific person, on a specific day, in a specific village. The alternative — round numbers, unattributed and unaudited — is worse than useless. It teaches donors to trust the wrong things.
Everything on this page can be checked. Every child in our enrolment figures has a name and a family. Every clinic in our count has a signboard, a health committee, and a monthly attendance ledger. Every pound in our accounts has a corresponding line in the field-office ledgers in Nanyuki.
We publish the good and the difficult. In our 2025 report we wrote openly about two projects that did not work — a rainwater harvesting pilot that failed on maintenance, and an adult literacy programme that struggled with attendance. Both are worth reading about, because both taught us more than the successes did.

Wanjiru, first in her family, third in her class.
When we first met Wanjiru she was ten years old and about to be pulled out of school. Her father's small farm had failed for a second year and school fees for three children were impossible. Our scholarship covered her fees, uniform, and books. She is now fifteen, in the top three of her secondary school class, and wants to be a nurse.

From under-13 barefoot to first-team captain.
James joined the Black Cats' first under-13 team in 2016. He now captains the senior team, coaches the under-15s on Saturdays, and has been offered a place at a Nairobi teachers' college. He is the son of a subsistence farmer. He is the first person in his village to receive a higher education offer of any kind.

Fifty-two women, one grain store, one changed season.
In 2019 the women of Ngobit village asked us to help them build a shared grain store. We funded the materials; the women built it themselves. Four harvests later, their household incomes are up an average of twenty-two percent, and their children's school attendance is the highest in the district.
Where every pound went last year.
Every year, 88% of our income reaches project work. The remaining 12% is split between governance, independent audit in two jurisdictions, safeguarding, insurance, and the small central team that keeps everything else honest.
We have chosen not to chase a lower administrative ratio at the cost of good governance. A charity that skimps on audit is a charity that eventually skimps on the truth.

The most important number is the smallest one.
In every annual report there is a number we treat with more care than any other: the number of children who left our scholarship programme without finishing. Last year it was seven. We visited every family, understood every reason, and adjusted the programme where we could. Impact is not just what we do — it is what we notice when it does not work.
The questions donors ask most.
Every headline number is cross-checked against three sources: the field-office ledger, the community committee's own records, and — where relevant — government or school data. Discrepancies are investigated before we publish.
Every pound is a promise we intend to keep.
